A journey to riding confidence.
Every rider moves through five progressive phases — from first assisted walk to cantering with full control. Each term is a new chapter; each phase a milestone earned.
The journey begins here.
Rising into rhythm.
A landmark step: independence.
First strides of the canter.
Cantering with confidence.

The journey
begins here.
With instructor support, riders begin their journey by building safety awareness, correct riding position, and confidence around the horse. Walk is introduced in a supported environment, along with the foundational principles of trot and communication.
Rising into
rhythm.
Riders begin developing control in both rising and sitting trot with continued support. Focus shifts toward rhythm, balance, and building comfort transitioning between walk and trot with growing independence.
A landmark
step: independence.
Riders achieve independent walk while continuing to refine trot with support. Introduction to two-point position builds balance, stability, and preparation for more advanced riding skills.
First strides
of the canter.
Riders now ride trot independently and are introduced to canter work in a structured, supported environment. Ground poles and arena exercises help develop timing, coordination, and accuracy.
Cantering
with confidence.
Riders develop consistent canter work and greater independence and accuracy. More complex exercises like cavalettis and pole work build control, feel, and partnership with the horse.
Many riders repeat this phase across multiple terms before progressing.
Where do you
go from here?
Phase 5 represents a strong level of achievement, but it is not the end of the journey. Riders may continue refining their skills in this phase or explore further progression pathways such as Equiskills or Riding Club and HorseShare.
